We need to expand affordable housing options, especially for families, while preserving neighborhood character and respecting our lakefront and open spaces. There are many sites throughout the Ward that can be developed or repurposed to accomplish this.&nbsp; We must also provide compassionate, effective support for those experiencing homelessness. These are not mutually exclusive and, together, improve life for all.

Thoughtful housing solutions

Vibrant businesses are the backbone of any strong community. &nbsp; We must support our local businesses, revitalize our business districts and bring new, sustainable jobs to the Ward. &nbsp; We can do this by working with the chambers of commerce, improving city services and creating task forces that address the needs of specific areas.

<h2>Meet Troy</h2>As a recently retired Labor Market and Career Resources program manager for the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Troy spent decades ensuring equitable access to employment, education, and community resources across the state.Having worked with city, state, and federal agencies and elected officials across multiple administrations, Troy understands how government operates and how to cut through bureaucracy to deliver real results for residents.Troy's leadership has shaped community life across the ward. She guided the Peterson Garden Project's efforts to establish sustainable community gardens, strengthened neighborhood advocacy through the Edgewater Community Council, and continues to help preserve the ward's rich history as an active member of the Edgewater Historical Society.Her commitment runs deep with years of service on the Park Advisory Councils for Berger Park and Broadway Armory Park, a decade as the only Community Liaison for the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce, and leadership roles as vice president and governing council chair of Friends of the Parks, on the board of Girl Scouts USA, on the St. Gertrude Parish Council, and with the Edgewater North Neighbors Block Club.With a background in economics, linguistics, and gender equality, Troy brings a unique and in-depth perspective to tackling disparities in education, economic development, and social justice.&nbsp;Troy grew up in a military family and has lived on several continents, giving her a broad understanding of people and a deep appreciation for the diversity of our community.Troy will be a steadfast leader for positive change in Chicago and the 48th Ward. A proven leader and advocate, Troy gets things done.

Safeguarding our lakefront, parks, and open spaces and initiating practical and sustainable climate action will secure our future.&nbsp; These range from ensuring the tree canopy remains intact to enhance clear air to reducing microplastics in our water.&nbsp; Steps taken at the local level can make a difference for all.

Protect our environment

The 48th Ward is rightly proud of its diversity and its willingness to welcome newcomers. We must continue to protect our vulnerable neighbors whether by fighting anti-immigrant policies and ICE actions that undermine community safety and trust, ensuring our seniors can walk safely on our streets or working to eliminate food insecurity in our community.
