Serve as a partner and an advocate
Representing the 48th Ward is an honor and a trust. Transparency in decision-making has long been a hallmark of the 48th Ward, one that has been eroded. Residents must have a meaningful voice in the planning, development, and policies that shape our community. This includes standing-up to City Hall to ensure it works with our community instead of imposing one-size-fits-all mandates.
Improve quality of life
Reducing crime, improving traffic flow, protecting both pedestrians and cyclists, enhancing neighborhood infrastructure and investing in youth programming are critical to ensuring the 48th Ward remains a place people want to call home. We must secure our fair share of city resources to make this happen.
Advance thoughtful housing solutions
We need to expand affordable housing options, especially for families, while preserving neighborhood character and respecting our lakefront and open spaces. There are many sites throughout the Ward that can be developed or repurposed to accomplish this. We must also provide compassionate, effective support for those experiencing homelessness. These are not mutually exclusive and, together, improve life for all.
Build a stronger local economy
Vibrant businesses are the backbone of any strong community. We must support our local businesses, revitalize our business districts and bring new, sustainable jobs to the Ward. We can do this by working with the chambers of commerce, improving city services and creating task forces that address the needs of specific areas.
Protect our environment
Safeguarding our lakefront, parks, and open spaces and initiating practical and sustainable climate action will secure our future. These range from ensuring the tree canopy remains intact to enhance clear air to reducing microplastics in our water. Steps taken at the local level can make a difference for all.
Defend the vulnerable
The 48th Ward is rightly proud of its diversity and its willingness to welcome newcomers. We must continue to protect our vulnerable neighbors whether by fighting anti-immigrant policies and ICE actions that undermine community safety and trust, ensuring our seniors can walk safely on our streets or working to eliminate food insecurity in our community.
