Troy believes in

Parking Solutions and Comprehensive Traffic Planning

Troy supports better public transit, safer walking routes, and more transportation choices. But transportation policy must also reflect reality: many 48th Ward residents still need their vehicles.

Families with children, older residents, people with disabilities, caregivers, small business owners, workers with jobs outside transit access, and residents with irregular schedules cannot simply give up their vehicles because City Hall wants them to. A practical transportation policy must serve transit riders, pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and local businesses.

The 48th Ward already faces serious congestion on major streets and intense parking pressure on blocks such as Winthrop and Kenmore. Eliminating parking requirements for new development while encouraging thousands of new housing units will make those problems worse unless the Ward has a realistic traffic and parking plan.

Troy opposes transportation policy that tries to force behavior by making daily life harder for residents. Better transit is essential, but residents should not be punished for needing their vehicle.

As Alderperson, Troy will:

  • Require new development in the 48th Ward to include necessary parking solutions in congested areas.

  • Support neighborhood-specific parking and traffic planning.

  • Require new development to account for its parking, delivery, rideshare, accessibility, and traffic impacts.

  • Push for safer intersections, better crosswalks, and traffic calming where dangerous interactions have emerged.

  • Support practical improvements for pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, drivers, and local businesses.

  • Work with residents to address traffic safety concerns block-by-block while developing comprehensive plans for the community.

Troy believes the Ward needs transportation policy that is realistic, inclusive, and focused on making our daily use of Ward streets safer for everyone.
