Troy believes in
Responsible Development and Community Planning
The 48th Ward needs thoughtful development, affordable housing, and strong neighborhood planning. But development should be guided by community needs, infrastructure capacity, public safety, school capacity, parking realities, and quality of life.
Troy supports responsible development that strengthens the Ward without overwhelming existing infrastructure. New housing should be planned with real attention to traffic, parking, schools, transit, public safety, sanitation, green space, and neighborhood character.
The 48th Ward is among the most densely-populated parts of Chicago. Many areas of the Ward have substantial multiunit housing, high-rise buildings, and transit access. Adding density without a real plan for infrastructure, schools, traffic, parking, and open space is not sustainable.
Troy believes residents deserve a real voice in major zoning and development planning. Community input should happen early, be taken seriously, and shape decisions impacting the Ward - not a superficial step to legitimize predetermined outcomes.
As Alderperson, Troy will:
Support responsible development that fits the needs and capacity of the neighborhood.
Require serious planning around traffic, parking, schools, public safety, and infrastructure before approving major zoning changes.
Oppose one-size-fits-all zoning policies that ignore the realities of the 48th Ward.
Demand meaningful community engagement before making major development decisions.
Support affordable housing in appropriate locations without sacrificing public lakefront land, parkland, or neighborhood livability.
Encourage investment in vacant and underused sites, including appropriate City-owned lots and commercial corridors.
Troy believes the 48th Ward can welcome new neighbors and support affordable housing while still protecting the quality of life for its existing residents and businesses.
